UNIVERSITY OF WALES
Founded by Royal Charter in 1893, the University of Wales is the degree-awarding body for the majority of higher education students in Wales, as well as for many at other higher education institutions in the United Kingdom and overseas. 
The University’s position enables it to focus not only on its primary functions as a degree-awarding body and provider of services to the Welsh higher education sector but also, as a national institution, on playing an enhanced role in protecting and promoting the economy, culture and language of Wales. 
Annually, it awards around 15,000 initial degrees and more than 4,000 higher degrees, making it the second largest degree-awarding body in the United Kingdom.  The number of students, from all over the world, pursuing University of Wales degrees is around 70,000, and their studies cover a wide range of subjects. The ever-popular MBA from the University of Wales is listed in the Financial Times Top Online MBAs for 2009
The University is a major national institution in Wales.  While it is, of course, committed to helping to fulfil the educational and economic needs of Wales and to supporting its linguistic, cultural, and national heritage, the University is also committed to its international role and to enhancing its standing across the UK and overseas.  As well as its validation role and the international projects undertaken by its Global Academy, the University sponsors a number of cultural initiatives, such as the prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize, for young writers, which attracts entries from all over the world.




UNIVERSITY OF SUNDERLAND
The University of Sunderland is a dynamic, modern university with a growing reputation for teaching quality and leading-edge-research. Recognised by The Guardian newspaper as England’s best new university in 2001, and rated best new university in the UK for the overall quality, range and quantity of its research. The university is committed to pioneering new, flexible learning programmes, allowing students to study at home or at work. Sunderland Business School is an international learning community of over 3,000 students and 90 full-time academics offering a comprehensive range of Business, Law and Psychology programmes at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.




UNIVERSITY OF TEESSIDE
Teesside University became one of the first new universities in June 1992 and entered a period of rapid change and staggering progress. Student numbers more than doubled - from just under 8,000 to over 20,000 in 2005 - and nearly £100m has been spent to create a 21st century campus. Originally founded as Constantine College, the institution was officially opened in 1930. The college became a polytechnic in 1969 and in 1992 the Privy Council gave approval to 14 higher education institutions, including Teesside, to become new universities. The single-site campus in the centre of Middlesbrough still includes the original Constantine College building but the University has since grown more than twenty-fold. Today it is a dynamic, modern university dedicated to delivering quality programmes of study.
Teesside University was recently named University of the Year in the Times Higher Education Awards.
It was the highest placed modern university in North East England and gained a top 20 score in The Times Higher Education Supplement for overall student satisfaction. Students rated their learning resources among the best nationally and gave academic support a top 20 score. The School of Computing has an Excellent rating for teaching quality on its courses from HEFCE - the Higher Education Funding Council for England. It is also a centre of excellence in Computing, Games and Animation, and Web and Multimedia.




UNIVERSITY OF BIRMINGHAM
The University of Birmingham was founded in 1900 as a successor to Mason Science College, and is thus the earliest of the so-called "red brick" universities. As a highly respected and major research-led institution, it currently has over 18,000 undergraduate and over 11,000 postgraduate students. The university ranked 33rd out of 109 higher education institutions in The Times 2007 Good University Guide, and came 16th in The Guardian’s 2006 rankings. It is ranked fifth nationally for Research Excellence. In October 2006, the University was also ranked equal 90th best in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement.




UNIVERSITY OF EAST LONDON
With over 20,000 students and rated among the top 10 modern universities for research by the Guardian, the University of East London is a dynamic university with a reputation for innovation and diversity. For teaching, UEL are highly rated in a number of fields, and are ranked Number One among all UK universities for spend its facilities per student by The Times University Guide 2007. In 2005, a team from the government's Quality Assurance Agency conducted a thorough audit of UEL, resulting in the best possible award of 'Broad Confidence' in the soundness its management, the quality of its programmes and the academic standards of its degrees and other awards.




UNIVERSITY OF DERBY
The University of Derby has total of 24,000 registered students, of whom approximately 9,000 are full-time Undergraduates. Currently 54% of students are mature (over 21). The university offers a wide range of joint and single honours degrees.
The University of Derby was the first in the UK to merge with a Further Education College and offers programmes throughout FE and HE. In addition to on-campus study the University also operates a number of distance learning programmes and has one of the most extensive offerings of off-campus e-Learning programmes of any UK University. The Law School was recently rated top in the UK for personal development according to the National Student Satisfaction Survey 2006.




BIRMINGHAM CITY UNIVERSITY
Formerly known as the University of Central England, Birmingham City University was established by statute in March 1992. With seven faculties and seven campuses, the university delivers over 300 courses to more than 23,000 students. Its catchment area extends from inner Birmingham to the Far East and the United States with local, regional, national and international partners playing a key role in much of its work. In pursuing the historic aim of providing an inclusive education for employable graduates, it works with organisations in the private and public sectors to ensure the highest possible standards of delivery.
The Faculty of Technology, Innovation and Development (TID) incorporates the Technology Innovation Centre (or ‘tic’) which was created in 2000 from the former Faculty of Engineering and Computer Technology. The TID delivers a wide range of courses that enable students to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in our technology driven society. The Engineering Design & Manufacturing Systems, Digital Media Technology and and parts of Computing, Telecommunications and Networking schools of TID are located within the prestigious Millennium Point building, in the heart of Birmingham City Centre. This £114million development provides some of the best resources and facilities in the country.




SHEFFIELD HALLAM UNIVERSITY
Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s most progressive and innovative universities. With more than 28,000 students, over 3,000 staff and 650 courses, it is the country’s sixth largest university. It was founded in 1843 as Sheffield School of Design. After a distinguished history as one of Britain’s top schools of art and design for more than a century, it became one of the colleges that merged with the city’s College of Technology in 1969 to form Sheffield Polytechnic—one of the first polytechnics in the UK. In 1976 the Polytechnic was renamed Sheffield City Polytechnic as it absorbed the city’s two teacher training colleges, one of which was itself founded back in 1902. Along with all other British polytechnics, Sheffield City Polytechnic became a university with the right to award its own degrees in 1992 and was renamed Sheffield Hallam University.
As one of the UK’s leading universities in e-learning, it offers a range of distance learning and part-time courses as well as the more traditional full time courses. The university is recognised as a Centre of excellence for teaching and learning, e-learning and employability. The Times Higher Education Suppplement has reported that Sheffield Hallam University is placed first amongst English institutions in a new teaching quality league table.




EDEXCEL
Edexcel are the UK’s largest awarding body who are accredited by the UK Government’s Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) to award a range of qualifications. Edexcel operates in 112 countries and every year more than four million people study its internationally recognised qualifications. Edexcel offer a wide variety of both vocational and general qualifications, including BTEC with more than 500,000 students studying these programmess each year. Edexcel BTEC qualifications are accepted by all UK Universities for direct entry with advanced standing on to their degree programmes.
